Our Canada Day Celebration is Red, White, and Green!
With your support, we are able to continue to protect the sensitive marine environment on which our Canada Day event is located! Each Canada Day we strive to be as green as possible and do our part protecting the environment. We thank everyone who participates in our green initiatives!
How do we achieve a zero waste event?
Green Chair Recycling has recycling stations, marked by visible signage, set up all around Waterfront Park on Canada Day. Their volunteers help attendees sort their recycling into the appropriate receptacles and to ensure all the waste ends up where it needs to be.
The Rotary Club of Lions Gate provides an efficient water station to fill up water bottles and reduce the use of plastic. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these water stations by bringing your own water bottles!
All of our food vendors support our zero waste goal by only using packaging that is biodegradable, compostable, and plastic-free. They also respect our event wide ban on Styrofoam.
Our community display booths also help us achieve our zero waste goals by considering that the event takes place in a sensitive waterfront location when deciding on giveaway items. There is no handing out of temporary tattoos, balloons, or any items that create non-recyclable waste in order to reduce the amount of litter on-site.
It is truly a team effort, but is absolutely worth it!
How can you help?
NEW FOR 2019 - THE BICYCLE VALET
The Rotary Club of Lions Gate encourages attendees to take public transport, walk, or bike this Canada Day. New to this year's event, The Bicycle Valet will be on site providing free and secure bike parking!
Similar to a coat-check, they take your bike and provide you with a claim stub which you then bring back when you want to have your bike returned to you.
